Description:

I would like that icons should change there position if there is a karamba theme over them, so they could be visible.

 Not a so good idea

We already have an example of what happens when something else than the user changes the positions of the icons on the desktop in the interaction of KDesktop and Kicker. I'd say that it's, well, far from perfect at least.

On the contrary, I think the placement of the icons on the desktop should be given back to the user. If s/he doesn't find some icons where s/he left them but a big Karamba stuff instead, s/he should figure out why and rearrange the icons or the Karamba panel the way s/he wants.

If we go down this road, what's next? Shouldn't the icons also move when a window is opened over them?

IMHO it's already a nuisance that the icons are pushed away by an auto-hide panel. If more and more constrains are applied to the desktop icons, it will become a real nightmare.

I do agree that we don't want Karamba to be messing around with desktop icons. But then again icons getting hidden beind Karamba can be annoying.

Maybe a better solution would be an option in the Karamba right-click menu to bring to front and select all obscured icons, then you can just drag them to somewhere else on the Desktop very easily yourself.

Wouldn't it be better to make karamba applets reside between the layer icon layer and your background. that way icons don't get lost, because they would just be put on top of your karamba theme. and thus putting the moving of the icons is put back into the hand of the user.

I see karamba applets only as background eye candy, which are less important then your icons.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and thought....

why not treating karamba (or other apps) applets as pseudo icons? this way, and without anything moving them to other places, we would have the desktop we want..

This is the very reason I don't use karamba themes on my desktop. I can't get to my bloody icons ]:-(
