Don't you know about the mousewheel over the kmix icon? There's no slider but it works as well without wasting the space needed by a real slider.

or... you can load kmix and click once on the kmix tray icon and will apear a vertical slide to control the volume

Kmix can change only one channel, but I need more than one (for example, Master volume, Video and CD).
And with kmix I don't see current volume in percent.
Your version is better that kmix, but I think you need to add more than one channel.

Yes, there was such kicker applet in KDE3. Kde 4 has it wasted unfortunately.
