Description:

Vladstudio Kompanion is a KDE port and enhancement of the Windows-based Companion, a utility that allows you to monitor, download, and install wallpapers from vladstudio.com. It works great whether you are a registered Vladstudio user or not.

Kompanion was developed with the support of Vlad Gerasimov, and is released under the General Public License (GPL).

I have very rarely (never?) seen a program so polished and working so well (touch wood) from its initial releases...like your program does. You really deserve a round of applause. I would like to suggest a few things though.
1) Changing directory in "Download wallpapers to..." doesn't seem to work. I have set a different directory but Kompanion still keeps downloading in default directory.
2) If Kompanion allowed browsing content from its own interface (like how KHotNewStuff does) then it would be great.
3) If 2nd is not possible then may be Kompanion could add an option in Konqueror's context menu to add VladStudio wallpaper links directly to kompanion?

1. You're right! I forgot to change the configuration group before reading the destination folder. This has been fixed in SVN revision 15 (http://kompanion.kdex.org/svn/commits/). You may want to download the snapshot to try it out: http://kompanion.kdex.org/downloads/svn/

2. Vlad requested me not to scrape the site, but...

3. The Konqueror service (and drag-and-drop into the Gallery) for wallpaper links and thumbnails has been around since the initial release: http://kompanion.kdex.org/kdoc/new-wallpaper.html

Doesn't it work for you? Please let me know.

Thanks for the menu tip :). I had made a mistake in installing kompanion. I usually install self compiled programs in a separate folder but looks like kompanion needed to be installed in KDE directories to give out proper configs.

Hope to see more good work from you. Keep it up :)

I think you can just copy vskompanion-add-url.desktop to e.g. ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/ and it would still work. That way, you can still run Kompanion from a custom directory. Haven't tried it, though...

Hello,

I'ver just compiled and installed the Vladstudio Kompanion.

When I browse the gallery all the backgrounds are within the correct size (1024*768).

Unfortunately when I set a wallpaper as background the width is doubled (20048*768) all the time.

Do you have any ideas why this happens? Thanks!

Is there anyone who has the original file for this? I would desperately like to have this program but Alex Ibrado has disappeared and he only hosted files on his own site (which is now dead). Could someone please let me know where I can find this??
