How is "pushing immature technology onto the user" any worse than "pushing ugly hacks onto the user"?

This patch will cause, that panel is renered as desktop. If this is "UGLY HACK", than plasma is bullshit. After apply this patch, panel will look very good on every desktop without
composite manager, althought, this doesn't have affect to functionality of panel, when composite manager is on. Quality of code/source wont be worse, because this patch use the sa
me functions as plasma, and this functions plasma contain.

This is perfect idea! I hope, that this will be implemented as soon as possible.

Aaron Siego said that this patch will NOT be merged to KDE 4

http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2009/03/decision-trees.html

I must say that i agree with him.

Aaron thought software transparency in kicker was an ugly hack, but this patch shows that it doesn't have to be either ugly or a hack. It is a perfectly viable option. The problem is not that Aaron has rejected this patch, it is that he has rejected the *idea* of this patch. He refuses to work with the author to get it into an acceptable state, because he has denied that there can ever be an acceptable state. In short, he has rejected the idea of pseudo-transparency itself.

Why should eye candy be limited to only those with Officially Approved video drivers? Many people DO NOT have the option to upgrade their hardware. They don't have the money, they don't have the technical skill, they might have a laptop that can't be upgraded, etc, etc, etc. Or maybe they just want pseudo-transparency, which is useful in its own right.

I'd love to see pseudo transparency/software transparency in KDE4 because my notebook doesn't have a 3d card and I don't like solid looking panels. I'd also love to use gdeskcal with KDE4 because there is no plasmoid calendar which can correspond with korganizer and handle icals - but gdeskcal looks ugly colored in the now non-transparent parts of the calendar.

But a WONTFIX is a WONTFIX... :(

Thank you for this patch. I have a problem video card that won't take any nvidia driver so I'm stuck with xorg nv and this patch lets me have my transparent panel back.
