SuSE Eleganter Bootsplash

Bootsplash Screen

Downloads:  3036
Submitted:  Jan 23 2012

Description:

Based on Cristian Rodriguez's SuSE Elegant theme, but supports many more resolutions. Also has small improvements to the graphics.

Get the matching KDM and KSplash themes for a consistent UI.

You can find the original SuSE Elegant theme at http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/SuSE+Elegant?content=117310.

To install:
% cd /etc/bootsplash/themes
% sudo tar xjf /path/to/SuSE-Eleganter-Bootsplash.tar.bz2
% sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash

In this file, change THEME="openSUSE" to THEME="SuSE-Eleganter". Then finally:
% sudo /sbin/mkinitrd -v

That's it, it's installed. Reboot to see the splash screen.

Nice, simple and clean ! (Not like the default 12.1 one... LOL)
But, it'll be great to write a tiny little README file, just to tell what to do. I had to find an howto for Opensuse 10.2 -yes, 10.2 LMAO.
Thanks for sharing !

I have your splash screen & like it. But if you really want it to be adopted, then you need to have screens from Installation to final splash screen.

For before being adopted, you need to have SuSE-Elegant artwork for Grub through to splash screen.

You will also need to have some kind of progress bar/throbber/animation to show that the system has not locked up.

Can you adapt it for plymouth?

This theme is absolutely awesome! And it's great that they are similar across bootsplash-kdm-ksplash. But OpenSUSE 12.2 is using plymouth, can you please adapt this theme for plymouth too?

+++1 for this. I usually put my desktop to sleep, but would still love to have the whole integrated look when I do reboot it.

Green is defiantly NOT my favorite color, and would love to get rid of it.

Quick and dirty:
-copy openSuSE plymouth theme as Eleganter.
-replace background.png with the one from Eleganter
-shrink logo.png to 1x1 pixel
-rename openSUSE.script to Eleganter.script
-rename openSUSE.plymouth to Eleganter.plymouth
-edit Eleganter.plymouth
-correct the name to Eleganter and adjust the paths
-set as default plymouth theme
Done.

Now experiment with the script

Thanks bitcrazy. That worked for the shutdown screen but the startup screen is still the same green as before. Not counting the Grub screens - I know they're separate from Plymouth. Are there a separate Plymouth settings for startup and shutdown?

Instead of shrinking logo.png, I edited it and removed the camelion leaving the text.

I'm on SuSE 12.2 and shortened the grub timeout to 3 sec. Grub splash is stillgreen, correct. But afterwards starts plymouth with my splash...
Wait, have you rebuild your initrd?
You must call "plymouth-set-default-theme name-of-your-theme --rebuild-initrd".

Grub theme can also be customized with the Eleganter background image. Maybe I'll pack both themes and/or create rpms and upload them on weekend.

Didn't rebuild initrd before. Just did and it works great.

I'd customized the grub screen on my laptop a couple of installs ago (kubuntu 9.10 or so, I think), I just haven't gotten around to finding my notes on what I'd done to do it. Not that I expect to be the same now, but it would be a starting point.

Thanks for the info. Getting closer and closer to a unified startup. If only it were possible to change the BIOS splash screen, I'd be in heaven with a totally unified experience.

Just yesterday, I submitted a beta Plymouth theme, based on this theme. It's not showing in searches yet. Probably pending approval.
