Description:

#7Z is a 7-Zip GUI for Windows; Q7Z is a P7Zip GUI for Linux. #7Z and Q7Z attempt to simplify data compression and backup.

7-Zip is a file archiver for Windows with a high compression ratio. It was designed by Igor Pavlov. P7Zip is a port of 7-Zip from Windows to Linux.

Use Q7Z or #7Z if you want to:
* Update existing archives quickly
* Backup multiple folders to a storage location
* Create or extract protected archives
* Lessen effort by using archiving profiles and lists

Changelog:

* Added the ability to toggle the Auto-Quit state
* Enhanced the information notification techniques
* Improvements were made to the update checking code
* Made several minor changes to the code structure

Hi, afaik there is a compatibility problem in GPLv3 so you can't use it with a Qt4 application. It's GPL-2 only...

Here's an article about the issue:

Thanks for the info.

Perhaps I can specify that the Q7Z code is GPL v3, while its dependencies are still GPL v2 and others.

Does that sound alright?

No that's not all right. Please read: http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html#v2v3Compatibility

The GPL v2 requires that any works deriving on GPL v2-ed software must also be under the GPL v2. Until Qt either licenses Qt under the GPL v3 (also) or adds GPL v3 to the list of permitted licenses in the GPL exception (added to Qt 4.3.1's GPL text) you *must* license your work under the GPL v2.

Thanks for the extra info.

I emailed Trolltech earlier today about this issue and hopefully they'll reply soon.

I haven't got anything 64-bit here so I've never needed to try it.

You could always have a go at building your own package. Scripts for RedHat, Debian, Slackware and Arch distributions exist in the 'Build' directory.

I'm interested to know how you go. Feel free to send me an email with the info.

 Unpacking .tar.gz

1st: i like your app very much!
one thing, though:
could you make it unpack .tar.[gz|bz2] files directly instead of first unpacking to .tar and later untaring this file.
thanks.

Thanks for the compliment.

You've raised a good point and I've been thinking about implementing this for a while. Q7Z currently extracts to the tarball because that's how P7Zip works.

I've added your suggestion to the TODO list but I probably won't do much development work for a while. In the meantime, right-click on the archive in Konqueror and choose "Open in New Tab".

package available for 64 bit !

On the google code site [http://code.google.com/p/k7z/downloads/list], there is a file named q7z-0.8.0-1.package - download this and make it executable then run it in a terminal. It will download some stuff and install everything needed for KDE and Gnome. It has a dependency for pyqt, which is in the Ubuntu repository as pyqt-tools and pyqt4-dev-tools. I'm not sure if you need the dev or v3, but I got them both and it installed without a hitch! -BTW, I'm using Kubuntu 9.04.
