Description:

Parley supersedes KVocTrain as a vocabulary trainer.
Its GUI has been reworked to be even more intuitive while it keeps all the potential of KVocTrain.

With Parley vocabulary management is a breeze.

Parley features several different kinds of tests, such as written, multiple choice, gender of nouns, comparison forms and conjugations. Your own fill-in-the-gap-tests can easily be created with the help of example sentences.

Parley gives you the opportunity to add multiple languages to a single file and lets you practice any combination of those.
It already supports sound, although this feature needs to be better integrated in the practice. Declinations are planned to be integrated as well in future releases.

But Parley is not only limited to language training, you can as well memorize any other things.

Many documents are already available for download on http://edu.kde.org/contrib/kvtml.php

Changelog:

NEW FEATURES in KDE 4.1 (Parley 0.9.1)
--------------------------------------
- Plasmoid to allow passive learning - fits into the panel or looks nice on the desktop - mouse hover to reveal the solution
- Improved main window using dock widgets to allow faster editing of the vocabulary and context
- Word types overview, display all words of one type
- Improved synonym handling - allows as many synonyms for a word as you want
- Drag and drop for vocabulary and lessons and word types (rearrange your lessons any way you want to, drag words into a lesson to put them there).
- Sublessons of arbitrary depth. Allows easy organization even of huge files with a large number of words.
- Add tip of the day dialog with some hints how to use Parley efficiently (let me know if you have good tips to add!)
- An integrated KCharSelect widget to easily enter any (un)thinkable unicode char
- Improved copy and paste to include all context like word type and conjugations
- Clean and better looking statistics dialog
- Capability to export as HTML, either as flash cards or table. Nice for printouts. The table version lets you hide the answers for one column, so you have a test ready in no time to fill out.
- Spellchecking with Sonnet - works as soon as a dictionary (aspell, ispell or enchant) for the language is installed
- Vocabulary column headers are now tri state, sort ascending, descending, original order with no hastle
- Ability to show comments, word types, example sentences in the table next to the vocabulary entries
- Add a "remove all grades from document" action to the menu, allow removal of grades from individual lesson's grades in the statistics view
- Updated toolbar icons. Thanks Lee!
- Updated get hot new stuff to be able to download vocabulary files including sound and images (compressed files support). Thanks Jeremy!
- Dialog to let the user know if the current practice contains no words because of settings, including the option to ignore settings.
- Lots of cleanup and minor bug fixes

NEW FEATURES in KDE 4.0 (Parley 0.9.0)
--------------------------------------
- First Parley release ever!
- Images are displayed in all practices
- Dual conjugations implemented
- Option to ignore accent and/or capitalization mistakes
- Basic sound support
- Short summary after a practice
- Possibility to select only certain word types for practice

 feature request

Hi,

would it be possible to add the "leitner system" to parley? That would be very nice.
Take a look at http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lernkartei

In a way Parley already has a Leitner/spacial learning system. It grades vocabulary depending on your answer and will only repeat previously known vocabulary in increasingly long intervals.
A card box visualization would be nice, but currently the 4.1 version needs to become stable as it has been reworked in a few ways.

i'm trying to learn russian, and i still use 3.5, which brings the question, is it possible for people to collaborate on tests, and perhaps distribute them with an auto download/update system from a website?

Hi. Great application.

I use parley to learn kanji. As the kanji get more complicated it becomes increasingly difficult to see the differences of them.
Therefore I'd like to see option to increase the font-size of the asked word (kanji in this case).

I'd like to fix the synonym bug but I can't find the point in code, where synonyms get serializes into the XML file. Could somebody please point me to it?

I am learning Tagalog and wish there was support for it. The language is spoken by over 24 million people.
