Description:

Naufrago! is a simple online/offline RSS reader that allows reading news even with its images. This is because there are people, like the author, that not always has an Internet connection available, but wants to be able to read articles/entries/posts with its images. This is the leit motiv of the application.

Changelog:

Naufrago! 0.4 roadmap:

  • Application identifyer (its own User-Agent) + version (improvement).

  • Code cleaning process courtesy of pychecker and pylint (improvement).

  • Instant hiding of the read entries/articles when the "hide read entries" option is enabled (improvement).

  • Fix for the problem that caused uncategorized feeds (in an .opml) not being imported.

  • Fix for the notification message (pynotify) not being localizado/gettexted.

  • Fix for the images that could not be downloaded in a round, to retry in the next one.

  • Clear mode: new visualization and operating mode that only shows feeds with pending unread items/entries (new).

  • Toolbar button to mark EVERYTHING as read (new).

  • Download of the contents where entries/articles point to. That's a step forward in the offline field (new).

  • Plus to the 0.4 roadmap, the following has also been added:

  • Items of some feeds were shown as an exceprt, now show complete (fix).

  • Proxy funcionality integrated (thanks Niels)(new).

  • Added an alternative way to retrieve feed favicons (fix).

  • X button minimizes to tray instead of quitting (improvement).

  • Hope you enjoy!

     Roadmap for version 0.3

by jors on: Nov 21 2010

    Score 50%

  • Application stabilization avoiding race conditions caused by insertion/modification queries against SQLite (by thread blocking).

  • Chance of ordering by important column.

  • Fix to show/hide read entries (shown in real time).

  • Chance of hiding date column (to see more post title, if it is long).

  • Chance of canceling ongoing feed updates (via both a button on the toolbar and an option on the in the trayicon menu).

  • Mark/unmark categories in bold whether the contain unread/read feed entries, respectively.

  • Checking and warning messages when required modules are not present/detectable (for a better dependency check).

  • Added double click or pressing return to open an entry in a browser (the latter for those who are more used to keyboard navigation).

  • Fix for pynotify in order to avoid application from freezing.

  • Driven mode: new mode for the application to use some kind of intelligence on folding/unfolding categories depending on whether you have read/unread feed entries.

  • Fix to render propperly for some html entities.

  • Fix to insert new categores in the correct -alphabetical- position.

  • The list of feeds will not have horizontal scroll bar.

  • Optimization of the feed retrieving function (reusing a good portion of code), plus a workaround to avoid repeated entries.

  • New timing for obtaining feeds to be able to choose between hours or minutes.

  • Remodeling of the Preferences dialog to suit new options and features.

  • There was a implementation suggestion of using the system font on the app. AFAICT, this is present already. This is true for font type and size, but not for font style (because the app uses it for different meanings; in instance, read/unread feed entries).

Discarded suggestions (at least, for the moment):

  • Definable timeout for obtaining favicons/images/feed entries.

  • Order by read status.

  • Longer date field (including hour/min/sec).

  • Open links in embedded browser.

  • Custom notification messages.

  • Stay tunned!

     Cannot import feeds

by bornagainpenguin on: Dec 7 2010

    Score 50%

Unable to import feeds, unwilling to retype all 50+ feeds in again and reorganize them. Output from terminal as follows:

    ~$ naufrago
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/share/naufrago/naufrago.py", line 2825, in import_feeds
    tree = ElementTree.parse(f)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/xml/etree/ElementTree.py", line 862, in parse
    tree.parse(source, parser)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/xml/etree/ElementTree.py", line 586, in parse
    parser.feed(data)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/xml/etree/ElementTree.py", line 1245, in feed
    self._parser.Parse(data, 0)
    xml.parsers.expat.ExpatError: not well-formed (invalid token): line 20, column 54

Hopefully this will be fixed in future versions!

    Hi there bornagainpenguin,
    as usual, some questions:

    1. Which program generated the output .opml?
    2. Could you please send me the .opml file (aka feedlist) you are trying to import? (worbynet AT gmail DOT com)

    Thanks!

The feeds list doesn't seem to matter. I tried the one generated from the previous version of the program (0.1) and ones generated from Straw and from FeedR (an android feed reader) none of them would import.

I could send you one but how? Do you want me to just copy and paste the text from gedit here?

Well, in fact it does matter, because feedlists may vary and I need to take care of that. Naufrago! 0.1 just did wrong feedlist exports (.opml), so you cannot rely on it.

Just send me the export list you want to import to my mail account (attach the file and send it to me to: worbynet_at_gmail_dot_com) and I'll have a look at it.

    Thanks!

    Hi there again bornagainpenguin,

Thanks for you confidence & interest. I have fixed this for 0.3 version and have also sent you a modified feedlist in order for you to be able to import it into current Naufrago! production version (0.2).

Hope it works for you now!

    Regards,

     Warning: importing feeds

by jors on: Jan 26 2011

    Score 50%

Just wanted to note that importing feedlists (I mean .opml/.xml) presents a minor issue that causes uncategorized feeds to not be imported.

This is easily solved by modifying a single line of code as commented here:

    http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3152644&group_id=333054&atid=1396393

If you have any doubts, please, let me know in order to assist you :)
