Fire up your GIMP, load the image, choose Filters>Color>Color to Alpha from the Image menu and drop your white color from the Toolbox in the color field of the plugin window. After pressing ok, you should get rid of the white border. You can even select the white background by selecting it through 'by color selection' tool of the gimp.

Last I checked, the new Firefox artwork was not released under the MPL.

IANAL, but I'm not sure if the icon posted here is allowed or not.

Here is a link to my FireFox icons. I took what I found with Google (one png file) then cleaned up the xtra pixels and then made several versions from 128 pixels wide down to 16 pix.

Let me know if they help you... I was tired of low resolution FireFox icons..
