Description:

We have seen many approaches on how to utilize the menubar.

We have Apple\\\'s idea of having a global menubar at the top of your desktop, while chromium does something smarter(space-wise):

It replaces the menubar with a menubar button to do the same thing, thus, saving plenty of space.

This is just a mockup illustrating such an implementation on KDE.

Changelog:

v0.2 - The button could also be placed on the titlebar which has plenty of unused space.

This is better especially for apps that don't have a toolbar, ex krename.

Menu at the left of toolbar

In the first screenshot, why don't you put the menu button on the left (separated from the other icons with a separator)? In Rekonq I hate the fact that the menu is at the right and when the Rekonq window itself is at the right of my screen, the submenus appear to the left of the main menu which is very annoying, especially if the submenu has a submenu of its own because this submenu then appears to the right of the parent submenu (and thus it covers the main menu).

I never understood the "usability" of Apple's approach of putting the menu in the taskbar: the menu is only applicable to the application window, so it is logical that the menu is inside that window. For the same reason I don't believe that putting the application's menu in the title bar is good: the title bar belongs to the window manager and only contains window managing actions, the actions of the application should therefore be located inside the window. So I do not agree with the second screenshot.

 OT: System stuff plasmoid

Hello, there! Sorry but this has nothing to do with the button: Which one is that plasmoid displaying system stuff (OS, cpu, memory and network load and so on) on the desktop seen at the screenshots?

Thanks, in advance.
