Good idea! I will have to see if it is possible to simulate "autohide" by moving the toolbox off the screen instead of changing the focus.

Success! I have managed to simulate "autohide" and it works reasonably well on my computer. I don't know if it is going to be smooth enough on slower computers, though.

Never move windows off-screen like that - it doesn't work with multiple monitors. For example, if gimp is started on the right monitor, by moving it off-screen it will be moved to the left monitor.

Thanks for pointing this out, Mr. Lancelot :-) Gimper initially changed only the focus of the Toolbox, so I think I can add an option to revert back to this, when needed.

Ideally one would change The GIMP sourcecode and provide an elegant solution, but ... this will have to do for now.

Well, I have been thinking about it, but I currently do not see the benefits. Gimper works well under KDE 4 (you can look at the screencast) and to some extent under Gnome too. I think this tool is too simple to benefit from porting.

well, there is at least one benefit : you don't have to install and load all the KDE3 libraries when you want to use this small (but useful) app :)

I'm slowly getting ride of all my KDE3 apps and in some times, the vast majority of people won't need to have KDE3 libs at all.

Is there a way to report bugs? Gimper needs a way.

I might create a sourceforge account for this project and that would do it, but this week I'm busy. Until then, you can report the bugs here.

Could it be on the right side of the screen? I prefer when it is on the right, and the images are on the left.

Hmmm ... That could even solve the multiple monitor problem in some cases.

Super, thanks!
Just had a problem with the installing. I have only the qt4 installed in Ubuntu, and don't know which qt3 libraries needs to be installed for compiling, but will find out.

 Native to KWin

by Contrast on: May 17 2009

Just thought I'd let anyone who's waiting around for a KDE4 port of this know that, unless I'm missing something, the main functionality provided by this program can be achieved with KWin natively: Window menu -> Configure window behavior -> Advanced -> Enable Hover. Now whenever you move the mouse over a shaded window's titlebar, it will unshade while the cursor is over that window. This can be enhanced further by setting certain windows to always start shaded and on top - hitting an entire screen edge obviously won't work unless a shaded window is horizontally maximized and placed at the top of the screen, but just having a couple in the corners works great.
