Description:

This is a script to display the archive of the Darkerradio.com Free Music Charts within Amarok. This is a monthly music charts show where only free (as in CC licensed) music is allowed. Oh, and of course you can also play and download those songs directly.

If you like some songs feel free to vote for them by going to the menu bar: Tools -> Free Music Charts Voting. You can select up to five songs each month.

New shows air every penultimate Monday of the month and should appear in the script promptly.

There also exists a script to integrate the charts into Amarok 1.4 at http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Darkerradio+Free+Music+Charts?content=101226

==Requirements==
Amarok 2.5.0 or later.

Changelog:

* show a link to search for this artist in the integrated Amazon MP3 Music Store
* Amazon integration requires Amarok 2.5 or later to work
* less debug output

* changed xml url to archive.org

* adjust service infos colors to match Amarok 2.1

==1.3.0 (2009-03-06)==
* only download charts data when needed

* make it work with Qt 4.5

 Installing the script

It seems that either the amarok script installer or your package is broken. If I try to install it using the script manager I get the message "Installed successfully" but it doesn't appear. Please add a description how to install it manually until this issue is fixed.

Great idea btw! Keep on pushing free music!

You need to be running a very recent version of Amarok 2 from trunk, as I fixed the GetNewStuff system just a few days ago. This fix will be included in the upcoming Beta 3

As nhn already noted you need a really, really recent version of Amarok. SVN as of yesterday noon should be ok, but nothing older than that, because I'm using the really latest scripting API and the KGetNewStuff code was just fixed some days ago.

For manual installation just unpack the archive to /usr/share/kde4/share/apps/amarok/scripts/ (including the directory which contains the script files, not only the files itself). But still you're gonna need an up2date Amarok.

 great script! one problem

Awesome script - I love getting the best free music delivered to my copy of the best music organiser in the world!

However, when I right click on a track and try and copy it to my computer, amarok crashes every single time. track > right click > copy to collection > local collection = reliable crash.

Using amarok 2.0.2 on kubuntu 9.04.

I'm quite sure this is fixed with Amarok 2.1.x. So please try upgrading Amarok. :)

 Suggestions

First of all: very nice script!

However I do have some suggestions, that would make it even more awesome:
- Allow to listen to the ogg version of the individual songs
- Allow to copy the ogg version of the individual songs to the local collection
- Amarok seems to screw up the order in which the tracks are added to the playlist whenever you drag a top level item to the playlist (this doesn't happen when you select all songs and drag them to the playlist as a package)

I am not sure whether the last one is a bug in the script or one in Amarok, though...

Anways, thanks again for your work :-)

Ogg support is not that simple, as archive.org does not generate oggs for all uploaded mp3s the artists provide: http://www.archive.org/details/freemusiccharts.songs2010 So I don't think I can do much about it.

Sorting: that's an Amarok problem, sorting can hardly be influenced by scripts.

But I'll keep my eyes open for solutions for both issues. :)

Unfortanetly, it is broken with the current Amarok :( It just doesn't retrieve anything.
OS: Kubuntu 10.10
Amarok: 2.3.2

Could you please fix it? 'Cause I love this script!

I gave it some debugging: it seems that Amarok is always returning an empty script instead the file data from my source url. So very likely it's an Amarok bug.

Someone is already working on it, so there is hope a fix will be in Amarok 2.4.0 (to be tagged in about one week). This should also fix the BBC script and maybe others, too.
