GTK 3.x Theme/Style

Submitted:  Feb 14 2014
Updated:  Jul 31 2015

Description:

E17gtk is a dark Gtk theme with sharp corners, which is designed for use in Enlightenment and gives the elegant look of Enlightenment to Gtk3, Gtk2 and Qt widgets. Of course, it can be used with any GTK based environment too but it is not tuned to Gnome or any of its apps.

*** Current Dependencies ***

GTK3, up to v3.18.X
gtk2-engines-pixbuf (or just GTK2 in rpm based systems)

*** Notes ***

(1) Please take a look at the file "README" in the theme folder! It contains useful tips for LibreOffice, Firefox, etc.

(2) Ubuntu users had better disable "overlay-scrollbar" before using this theme.

(3) So long as GTK3 is GIMP Toolkit (-> www.gtk.org), this theme should work with all GTK3 apps. However, it is NOT tuned to Gnome or any of its apps.

Changelog:

19 Nov 2015
------------
Worked around yet another change in gtk-3.18 for breaking themes.

31 Jul 2015
------------
Glassy toggled buttons (instead of sunken ones) -- a nice deviation from Enlightenment's theme.
Seemingly, the theme works with GTK3-3.16 as it is. I just fixed tab bg.

Oct 21 2014 (revision)
-----------
As Nemo is the best GTK3 file manager, a customization of its active breadcrumb is added for Gtk+-3.14.

Oct 21 2014
-----------
* A little less concave pressed buttons.
* Minute changes to the pressed button border.
* Corrected Gtk2 scale handles.
* Updated for Gtk+-3.14. The older version is also included in a separate folder. See README!

 Awesome

Awesome work! Fits perfectly with the Nyz colorscheme on Fluxbox. ;-) Just noted one problem: the address bar in my Google Chrome keeps the white background and foreground, turning the URL inside the box invisible.

Forget about it. Just closed the window and opened it again and the addres bar is displayed correctly.
Congrats! Great job!

Glad to know that your problem is fixed. Here, Chromium looks OK. Perhaps it was open when you applied the theme and after a restart it got the new theme correctly.

In fact, I have found one annoying problem and I can't find how to fix it. In Google Chrome (and Chromium too), the alt texts (texts that are displayed when you keep your cursor above a image, or a link, etc.) still have a light yellow background but the foreground is white, making it impossible to read. For example, in xkcd.org, the comic strips always have a alt text if you keep your cursor on the image, and this text is impossible to read. Is there any way to fix this?

That's a known bug in some recent versions of Chromium. It's fixed in the latest version (mine is 36.0.1985.32).

Youtube search white background with white text

Hello! Thanks for a great theme. I was curious if you knew how to fix this issue: In Youtube with Firefox the search field is white and the text is also white making the text unreadable.

- thanks!

Have you applied the Firefox workaround in the file README? Because Firefox's search field in Youtube and other sites is OK here.

Oh, it's a surprise to me that it works after such a long time! I'll update it when I have free time.

yes It works fine I been using it for few hours under Gnome Shell 3.18.
The only issue I found is that the disabled icon only buttons, looks like normal buttons, the text buttons looks fine when disabled, not sure if this is happening only on some applications.
Anyway great work!

Thanks!
I don't think that's a theme issue. Anyway, you gave me motivation to update it for gtk-3.20. Now I'm very busy with Qt but I'll surely do it.

That would be awesome... The gtk update to 3.20 broke every theme. Again...

I am really sorry to say this:

After updating my Manjaro installation, getting gtk-3.20, and taking a look at gtk source, I found out that this time, Gnome devs made so many backward incompatibale changes to keep their senseless monopoly on how gtk3 "should" be styled. Updating the theme for use with gtk-3.20 is possible but would waste hours of my time for nothing! To me, this is a senseless job I don't have the slightest reason to do, especially when I'm busy with developing my Qt engine and some other Qt apps.

I won't remove this theme just for its gtk2 part.

It is a pity, but I understand. I have given up with editing and creating gtk themes since gtk3.

It's a long time I haven't used Enlightenment (because of its peculiar way of desktop management, which is inconsistent with many apps) but I like its dark look. So, this theme isn't specifically for use under E anymore.

Please do update this theme for GTK 3.20 - my current GTK theme that looks like Enlightenment is broken and looks like flat garbage with GTK 3.20

I'll start to work on it when gtk-3.20 comes to Debian Testing. It may take some time to know what (useless) changes are made in that version.

If you use Enlightenment, you could easily replace your GTK3 apps with Qt ones and use Kvantum's default theme, which is very similar to the default theme of Enlightenment.
