 You beat me to it

I'm working on a Python program that does much the same thing, except that it currently only works with images, rather than fonts. I was inspired by Rainlendar yesterday and whipped off a quick little test script last night. It's going to have support for themes, and hopefully I can get most of it done (except for the TrueType fonts) by the end of this weekend.
As a side note, the really nice thing about it is that Python really is a "batteries included" language; I was very impressed by how quickly it was to start implementing my ideas. The default install handles both the calendar and the imaging. Pretty funky if you ask me.

 Why?

Sorry to be negative, but I don't see the point in this. One can simply click on the clock in kicker, and a full-featured calendar pops up.
It's quick, it's easy, and it has quite a few features.

 Duh...

It's eye candy, of course! If all we wanted was functionality, we could have stuck with the CLI.
No one is suggesting that this be added to KDE (in fact, my program will work with any *nix platform, and could even be used on Windows with probably a line or two of coding), so if you don't like it, feel free to ignore it.
