Common context menus for common objects

Look at applications you use. Almost everywhere you got list of files (in Amarok playlist, in aMule you got Transfers, in Firefox Downloaded Files).

Why each file-object in different apps has a different menu? Because the app has some specific work to do with a file (play/download/edit/insert etc).

But still a file is just a file. We would like to open it in some other application, copy to somewhere convenient.

That\'s why I would like to have some common menus for common GUI-objects. I mean a context menu for a file (in whatever application) should have some common actions (depend on the MIME of the file) in addition to the menu position provided by the application.

That\'s not limited to the files (think of them separately for each MIME). The other common object is a date (in calendar). In any app it would be possible, to set (show or copy) some events of the day if only a calendar is viewed. No more need to check in separate program (KOrganizer probably).

I will provide some mock-up in some time, but I want to state, that the idea is not really only-KDE related. To have a fully usable desktop, the \"common menus\" should became a standard (f.e. FreeDesktop), to allow GTK application to use THE SAME actions for THE SAME object.

I don\'t have to prove that it would be really useful, do I? Just think you downloaded a graphic file with aMule. Now to start fun with it, you got to open Konqueror, navigate to the Incoming folder and open/edit a file. In my vision you would have such a menu right in aMule. Great, innit?
