Description:

As you can see from this bugs:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107936
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97669

To apply filters to a printing job is a counter-intuitive task that most times gets doesn't get the job done as one might expect. Also, filters are a hidden option, in the last tab of a hidden dialog, so, for example, printing various pages per sheet (it's a very common task) it's nearly impossible for a newbie with the current KDE settings.
I'm suggesting a new way to see how filters are going to be applied. My suggestion is based in Apple's automator.
When someone selects a common option (for example, print in grayscale, low quality, only odd pages) that filters are automatically added to the dialog (that dialog is in the advanced tab, so the basic user doesn't have to know about filters at all).
In the advanced tab there is the list of applied filters plus all the possible filters to apply. That include print quality, color, multiple pages per sheet, maybe even effect plugins based on Zach Rusin (http://zrusin.blogspot.com/) pipeline of effects could be applied.
The user can drag and drop filters from left to right and rearrange them to select a custom order.
The best part could be a live preview, showing what's going on. Two pages are enough to see how the final document will look like.

My mockup is a rough interface made in five minutes with qt-designer 4 and touched with krita (that I've never used before) so it's ugly but shows what I mean. Maybe KDE artists could make filter bubbles look as good as automator ones.

I don't know about your interface, but a live preview would definitely be awesome in the print dialog. I'm guessing it would be similar to the preview bar on the left side of KPDF.

Microsoft? Is that some kind of toilet paper?
