Description:

BCChat is developed with the aim to create a chat application which can be run on any network without the need of installing a server or having an internet connection.

I'll try to upload builds in future.

FEATURES
  • multi-platform support: Use Linux, Mac OS or Windows machines in the exact same matter

  • UTF-8 encoded strings: Feel free to use special characters

  • See who's online: A list of chat buddies alway gives you an hint of who's listening

  • Automatic nickname creation: nicknames are created from the current user and host name

  • Change the default port (54545) to whatever you want

  • Localization support: currently, only english and german language is supported.

  • Changelog:

    New in 2.1:
  • dropped broadcasting, so app's name is now inappropriate, only "hello" packets are still broadcasts

  • formatting: write bold, italic or underlined Text; this was the first step to colored text and/or smileys

  • clients list is now ListWidget instead of TextEdit, also first step onwards private chats

  • dropped spammode (was just a testing feature)

  • LicenseGPL
    Source(bcchat 2.1 source)
    MS Windows(BCChat 2.1 Binary)

Adding smileys is possible, I'll try to include this in one of the next releases. But I currently don't understand what you mean with "message board" or "avatars" - could you explain that further?

Message board is place where user post their message like on BorgChat -http://borgchat.softnews.ro/ , there was on kde-apps similar project like BCChat it was called Qchat - http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/QChat?content=65066 i think it is open source, but there was
stoped developing,it would be nice to have something like Qchat on linux, i hope BCChat would be like Qchat, and is possible to add sys. tray icon with notification when message come.

     Current dev status

I just wanted to inform you:
I'm currently working on simple text formatting (bold/italic/underlined), smileys and private chats. One big step towards private chats was leaving the broadscasting behind - so now there's not a lot of data in big networks anymore, just "hello pings" are still being sent as broadcasts. As you may recognize, BCChat doesn't match it's name anymore, but nevertheless you may perhaps encounter file transmissions in one of the next versions ;)

    Stay tuned!

That sound nice about text formatting, one little suggestion about smiles, does is possible to support animated smiles, and to custom adding smiles that would be nice, and it would be nice to have system tray icon because of notification.

     Windows Build

Hey Folks, here's a windows build! I built it for windows first because it's much more trouble to compile in under m$ than under any linux. Perhaps I'll, as already said, register to OBS to supply binary packages for some linux distros. I hope that this uploading service I used is suitable.
