Description:

Here is an idea I had about application windows \\\"docking\\\" on the edges of your screen.

I used Kmess as an example for this, but the idea is for every application.

In the first screenshot, we see a desktop and on the right edge the mouse unveils an application on that edge by glowing (when the mouse is near enough).

In the second screenshot, no mouse over takes place but we have received a new msg on kmess so the area where the window is hidden is glowing orange. I repeat, no mouse over is required for it to glow orange.

In the third screenshot, we see the app window unfolding from the right edge, because we moved the cursor over the glowing area which caused the window to appear. The glowing color is the same as the application icon and the unfolding window is always on top of others and remains visible as long as the mouse is over it.

````
They way it could be implemented is as follows:
- Have a configuration window providing the position of the \\\"active edge area\\\", the size of the area and which application window should be docked there.
Optionally, we could also provide the user with the option of the notification color and the color of the glow when the program window gets unfolded.
Yeah! This is what I've been thinking of and looking for a long time. Especially for KMess, it's like Trillian then. This would be awesome, hopefully this gets implemented ASAP! :)
Such a great idea! I use Kadu IM and it has plugin named Panelkadu which works similar to your idea, but does not have the ability to show new messages is such way. Hope your idea will be implemented in a future editio of KDE :)
If this can be used wich some plasmoids, it would be grat for notebook / tablets users. For example, to show the screen keyboard in a similar fashion to Win 7 i na tablet PC
