Description:

It is mockup for dialogue "file -> open" opened in program Gimp (2).

We see additional panel "Gimp Places" (1) in left panel. "Gimp places" which as well as in "Places" it is possible to add folders for fast access. But they will be visible only for program Gimp.

This is first little idea for nautilus.

 Application-specific bookmarks

by GayGirlie on: Jan 1 2009

Score 50%

Rather call it something clearer and more descriptive, such as application-specific bookmarks. It's not a bad idea, honestly, I could probably find a lot of uses for it myself, too. Like for example I have music videos in one place, trailers in another and movie backups in third. As such it'd be terrific to have those bookmarks show up only in applications that handle video and not in any other.

But, there's also a catch to this; there would have to be an intuitive way to modify those bookmarks and applications should start informing the subsystem about which kinds of files they support. Then I could just bookmark the trailer folder with tags "multimedia" and "video", my pictures and wallpaper folders with "multimedia", "pictures" and so forth.

Thanks for the comment.

I have some ideas how to improve Places, "open files" dialogue, etc. This post - first attempt at writing.

These ideas came to me during daily struggle against weak functionality of these important parts of a gnome desktop. Also are routed on reduction of routine operations.

Concerning your idea, I so thought of it. After all this direct development of search idea. After all what for have started to include beagle and others searchers in gnome environment.

The following idea will be named "virtual places" and it will be directly linked to a search function.
