Ambiance Orthodox

Metacity Theme

Submitted:  Apr 8 2010
Updated:  Apr 23 2010

Description:

A tweak of the original Ubuntu Lucid Ambiance theme, but with the window icons in their orthodox positions (i.e. like they have always been traditionally, with a control menu on the left, and Min/Max/Close on the right!). This is tiny tweak to the original core theme XML, no new magic stuff. You need Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) or the right icon and theme packages as dependencies; any other version or distribution don't expect this to work.

PS. I've found that installing in the ~/.themes folder sometimes doesn't work for gksudo application (e.g. Synaptic), so it is more reliable to extract the files into /usr/share/themes so they are accessible to all users and groups.

Changelog:

Updated package for the latest RC of Lucid from Beta 2

License:
This is just a tweak of a couple of the XML files in the Ubuntu original theme, so I guess the license is whatever that is distributed in.

Excuse me but whats the difference between the original Ambiance and your modification of it? only thing to do to revert the botton layout is to go to gconf-editor->metacity->general and revert the botton_layout

microsoft gives u windows, Linux gives u da whole House :-P

Intentionally not much difference. In fact, as the description says, nothing is really different apart from the icon positions and the fact that it restores the original control menu (which the gconf method replaces with a rather boring dot).

My reason for developing this was two fold:
1) Each time there was an update to the Ambience theme, I found that my changes using gconf were overwritten, so a dedicated theme was preferable.
2) Some people I know of either don't know how or don't want to use gconf editor to mess with system settings. It is easier to have a nice theme with the changes ready to roll.

There is a Radiance Orthodox at Linux Mint.

The fact that you hadn't made them was the exact reason for me to make those up. Ambiance Orthodox is included in my pack, by the way - thanks for the codebase!
